Scope

This statement applies to the Cultural Data Online website.

The site makes some use of data that directly or indirectly identifies users. We take great care with practices that affect personal privacy.

Automated data collection

Data that in some way identifies the user is gathered during interactions with the Cultural Data Online website in the following circumstances.

  • Computer information
    During a visit to any website, including this one, the user's web browser provides the machine's identity (IP address) to the web server so that the server can the reply to the correct machine. Other information automatically provided by the user at this time is the browser type and operating system.
  • Navigation and click-stream data
    Browsing any website, including this one, generates a trail of pages visited and the time spent displaying each page.
  • Data storage, use and disclosure and retention
    All personal data described in the preceding sections is stored in transmission logs and archived for a period that is yet to be determined. (This is likely to be at least 12 months and quite probably seven years.)

The data is used by software on the Cultural Data Online website and by staff involved in the site's operation only for:

  • website and system administration, including monitoring to prevent security breaches;
  • customisation of the website to the user's needs; and
  • evaluation, research and development.

You may gain access to personal information about you that we hold and can seek to have us correct any errors or delete that information. However, we may require evidence of your identity before we can act on your request for access to information about you.

Identified data may be disclosed to a third party only in circumstances in which it is legally authorised—such as in the investigation of a criminal offence and in compliance with a search warrant or subpoena.

This website is bound by the Information Privacy Principles of the Privacy Act 1988.
